LiveStatus
UptimeRobot alternative

UptimeRobot watches your services. LiveStatus is what you show your users.

UptimeRobot is a fantastic free uptime monitor. But its status pages are an afterthought — basic UI, limited customization, no mobile app. LiveStatus is built for the customer-facing layer.

Two different jobs

UptimeRobot has been the default 'free uptime monitor' since 2010. It's reliable, cheap, and great at one thing: pinging your URLs every 5 minutes and emailing you when they fail. Millions of developers use it for personal projects and side businesses.

But the moment you need to show a public status page to your customers — branded, professional, with incident updates and email subscribers — UptimeRobot falls behind. Their status page UI hasn't been meaningfully updated in years, customization is limited, and there's no mobile app for your customers to follow.

LiveStatus is what you graduate to when uptime monitoring isn't enough. You can keep UptimeRobot for the monitoring you already trust and use LiveStatus for the customer-facing layer — or replace both.

Three reasons teams switch

01

Your status page is a marketing surface

When customers go to status.yourapp.com during an outage, what they see shapes how they feel about your company. UptimeRobot's default status pages look like 2012. LiveStatus is what a modern SaaS status page should look like — branded, calm, professional.

02

Subscriber experience matters

Your end users want to subscribe to your status page and get notified when things break. UptimeRobot's subscriber flow is bare bones. LiveStatus has subscriber confirmation, unsubscribe management, push notifications via mobile app, and clean incident emails.

03

Use UptimeRobot AND LiveStatus together

You don't have to switch. Keep UptimeRobot for the cheap monitoring you trust, and use LiveStatus webhooks to post incidents automatically when UptimeRobot detects an outage. Best of both worlds.

“But what about...”

Real concerns from teams considering the switch.

Why pay for LiveStatus if UptimeRobot is free?

UptimeRobot's free tier is great for monitoring. But the moment you need a customer-facing status page that looks professional, has rich incident management, and treats your subscribers like first-class users, you've outgrown UptimeRobot's status page module. LiveStatus is the upgrade.

Can I integrate them so I don't have to choose?

Yes. UptimeRobot supports webhook alerts. Point them at LiveStatus's incident webhook endpoint and we'll auto-create incidents when UptimeRobot detects an outage. Some teams use this hybrid setup as a stepping stone before fully switching.

Is UptimeRobot's monitoring more reliable than yours?

Both are reliable. UptimeRobot has more monitoring locations (7 globally) and a longer track record. We have 3 regions on Pro and growing. For most apps, both will catch the same outages within 1-2 minutes of each other. Where we win: the experience after the outage is detected.

FAQ

Do you offer a free uptime monitoring tier like UptimeRobot?

Our Free plan focuses on the public status page (1 page, 3 services, manual updates). Uptime monitoring kicks in on Starter ($19/mo) at 5-minute intervals. If you need free unlimited uptime monitoring specifically, keep UptimeRobot for that and use LiveStatus for the status page.

Can I migrate my UptimeRobot monitors to LiveStatus?

Yes — define them in our UI as 'services' with monitor URLs. We'll start checking them on the same schedule. We're also building a CSV importer that reads UptimeRobot's export format directly.

Does UptimeRobot's free tier really suck for status pages?

It doesn't suck — it's just bare. UptimeRobot was built as a monitoring tool first. Their public status page module exists but doesn't get the love that, say, Statuspage's does. If you're a side project, it's fine. For a real business, you'll outgrow it fast.

What about UptimeRobot's mobile app?

UptimeRobot has an iOS/Android app for the team to view monitor health. We have that AND a customer-facing app where your end users can subscribe to your public status page. Two different audiences.

How fast is your monitoring?

5-minute checks on Starter, 1-minute checks on Pro and Business. UptimeRobot does 5-minute on free, 1-minute on Pro. Same intervals at similar price points.
